Pick-Your-Own
PICK-YOUR-OWN 2010...CLOSING FOR THIS YEAR ON
SUNDAY, 8th AUGUST 2010!
Our Pick-Your-Own fields are open daily between 10am and 6pm until Sunday, 8th August 2010.
Unfortunately, the PYO strawberries are now finished but rest assured, we still have plenty of ready picked strawberries on sale in our shop! You can still come and pick your own raspberries, blackberries, loganberries, tayberries, blackcrrants and redcurrants - you really can enjoy the taste of summer here at Manor Farm!
Strawberries We grow a number of different varieties of strawberries including Judi Bell, Amelia, Florence, Christine, Juliet, Fenella and Elegance offering subtle differences in both colour and flavour. The three main varieties available now are Florence, Amelia & Judi Bell which are all very sweet.
Jubilee strawberries are a perfect heart-shaped variety of strawberry with a naturally sweet taste, succulent rich flesh, mouth watering flavour and a distinctive fresh aroma. They are reputedly the sweetest strawberry ever grown in the UK...quite literally 'The Queen of the Crop'!
The only difference between Class One and Class Two strawberries is the size and the shape! They taste exactly the same but any berries that are too small/too large/slightly mis-shapen to meet the tight supermarket specifications have to be outgraded into a 'Class Two' grade. So, please don't be put off - there is nothing wrong with the fruit at all! In fact, many of our customers like the larger fruit.
Raspberries This summer is proving to be a fantastic year for our raspberries - not only are they ripening in large numbers, but the weather has helped to make them sweeter and juicier than ever! We grow both summer and autumn fruiting raspberries. The varieties we grow in the PYO fields are Glen Ample, Glen Magna, Tulameen and Octavia.
Blackberries The recent warm spell has enabled our blackberries to ripen earlier than usual and in large numbers...and we're delighted with the results! Our plump, sweet blackberries will make a perfect accompliment to your ice cream or summer pudding
Tayberries & Loganberries Both of these are a hybrid cross between a raspeberry and blackberry, and each offers something different to the regular summer fruit; tayberries are sweeter and can therefore be eaten as they are, whereas loganberries are slightly more tart and are a great addition to your puddings and desserts. We have these in plentiful amounts so make sure to add these to your shopping list and enjoy their beautiful flavours!
Blackcurrants & Redcurrants Blackcurrants are not only a traditional favourite of our customers for their flavour and taste, they are also believed to be the best fruit for maintaining health and well being...they really add something to a dessert. Similarly, our redcurrants are also popular with pudding and tart makers alike!
We use the minimum amount of pesticides and wherever possible, biological control is use in preference. The strawberry fields are replanted regularly to ensure the quality of our fruit is always first class and that's why people have been coming back to us year after year!

Seasonal Farm Shop/Picnic Area Whilst we are only open for a few months in the summer, we do sell a variety of local produce including drinks, snacks, cream, ice cream and meringues so you can go home ready to make your perfect dessert (that's if you feel you need to add anything to our delicious fruit). Also, if the weather is nice you can enjoy the lovely views whilst relaxing in our picnic area.
Children love to go strawberry picking and as well as being good fun, it is very educational for them to see how fruit is grown as well as helping them to work towards their '5-A-Day' portions of fruit or vegetables.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT THE FARM THIS SUMMER!
